REFORMA Recommended Book List

This book list is the combined effort of many REFORMA members.  We believe these titles are appropriate for the Children in Crisis, those in detention and those who have already been released locally. Titles are arranged by grade level (Pre-K, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and High School). We selected books that library patrons enjoy in story times, young readers share among themselves, and reviewers recommend.  Many of the titles won the ALA/REFORMA Pura Belpre award in years past.

The list is a mix of books originally in Spanish, bilingual books, and books translated from English.  We are still looking for items in languages indigenous to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, and for more titles by Central American authors.  Included are some picture books and graphic novels for children who do not read Spanish.  Only the first book of a series is listed, but if it's part of a series it's noted in the comments.
